A Wrinkle In Life, Part 2

Spirit, using life situations, has a wonderful way of throwing us a curve ball -- something that pries us out of our comfort zone. I've talked with a lot of people who have has some sort of an unexpected incident occur this year, such as change in work/ career, death of a loved one, sudden illness or accident. There seems to be an invisible pressure for many of us to evolve beyond our current level of engagement with our lives.

When the unexpected arrives, there are three basic response paths we can take:

  1. Ignore the whole thing and pretend everything is just fine.

  2. Do what has to be done and grumble the whole time, resisting the change thrust upon us.

  3. Gracefully accept the new situation.

Now the latter is easier said than done and requires a deep awareness of self and trust that all will be well and that you will land on your feet when the dust settles. It also helps to have someone with which to talk so that you can get a different perspective.

No matter whether you are in a 24/7 relationship or one like mine where we have time and space apart, when something unplanned for happens, you are offered an opportunity to evolve your life, sift through what is really important to you and take action accordingly.

If you find yourself in a situation that requires a new response, be sure to breathe and trust in the process.

  • You are in training and being guided into the next leg of your heroine's journey.

  • If you feel like you are in a boat adrift on a stormy sea and without a paddle, trust that you have all the tools you need and will be guided to where you need to go.

  • Relax. Letting go of your comfortable past takes time.

  • This is a huge time for surrender to a higher force. The more you resist and struggle, the harder and longer resolution takes.

  • Trust your intuition.

  • Take time to go within and evaluate your life choice patterns and determine your priorities. Let go of your grip on what is not so important.

  • Look for the hidden blessings contained within the experience.

  • Find someone who can help you see beyond your own needs to the bigger picture.

  • After the dust settles, take time to review your new role and position in life and where you want to go next.

Unexpected changes, such as a sudden illness, have their roots in past patterns. In hindsight, you can see the events that led up to the crisis. It's all OK and as it is supposed to be. It's part of the life path for you. These unpredictable events offer you a quantum leap to another level of personal growth and self mastery. It's like graduating to a new grade in the school of life.

It has been almost three months since my sweetie got sick. He is still very unwell. I've had to accept that I can only do so much and his healing is in his hands. The experience has disrupted my comfortable life so that I've had to re-think everything. There is no doubt in my mind that he is my priority right now. But I know what I have to find a balance between service to him and serving myself to satisfy my inner drive to create and share. It's been really hard to trust that all is as it is designed to be and surrender to not knowing how I am going to juggle everything. I sense that this is the end of an era and I hope the new one will be one that serves both of us and a bigger picture.

I am grateful for the opportunity to practice stepping into my power, while being sensitive to the needs of another. I'm grateful to practice trusting my intuition and deepening my connection to the Divine. I know I'm moving to another level, but I have no idea how it will look or what it will be like. That's the blessing of this situation. And I know my sweetie is also gaining from this experience.
